An em dash means the result is undefined for that set, which is different from zero. An average, minimum, maximum, or median needs at least one numeric value; if every cell in the group is blank, there is no answer to give. We show a dash rather than 0 on purpose, because reporting a zero average for an empty group is misleading. A Sum of nothing is genuinely 0 and is shown as 0.
Blank cells are counted as items but not included in the sum. A row with an empty Amount still appears in the item count and still belongs to its group — it simply contributes nothing to the total. This matches how a spreadsheet behaves.
Not directly. monday.com’s API does not reliably return calculated values for formula and mirror columns, so any app claiming to sum them is on shaky ground. Rollup calculates from the underlying source columns instead. For a mirror column, point Rollup at the connected board and aggregate the real column there — which also lets you do things a mirror column cannot, such as summing only the linked rows matching a condition.
Yes. Rollup can follow a Connect Boards column and aggregate across each item’s linked rows, or match rows between boards on a shared key column when no connection exists.
monday.com meters API usage against a complexity budget shared across your account. On very large boards, or when several apps refresh at once, that budget can run out briefly. Rollup waits and retries automatically. If a view consistently fails to load, tell us roughly how many items the board holds.
No. Rollup only reads. It does not create, edit, or delete items, columns, or boards.
Numbers being wrong is the most serious kind of bug we can have, and we treat it that way. If a total looks incorrect, email us with the aggregation you chose, the column type, and the figure you expected. A screenshot with values blanked out is fine.
